Central Park

Central Park is the City's "lung," a vital element in the heart of Manhattan.

It covers 843 acres, from 59th to 110th Streets between 5th Avenue and Central Park West.

Central Park, which is a haven for more than 15 million people, was created in 1858 by Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux.

The site used to be a swamp, and the conversion into a park took more than 19 years.
It is designed in a Romantic Style with lakes, ponds, hills and rocky crags.

More than 500 000 trees and shrubs have been planted to offer a landscape of a great scenic beauty, with open space and meadows, bridle paths and carriage drives.

The renovation of Central Park has been ongoing snce 1980.

Today it is highly recommended for all and is completely safe.

The running trails are superb and a must for all those in need of a justification from all the culinary delights that one is tempted by when visiting New York.

Some excellent "people watching" opportunities await all those who get to enjoy a stroll through this legendary landmark.
